Redbird Football Opens Spring Camp March 4

The college basketball season may be heading into madness, but the spring football season is just around the corner for Illinois State which begins its spring workouts on Tuesday, March 4, at Hancock Stadium.

NORMAL, Ill. – The college basketball season may be heading into madness, but the spring football season is just around the corner for Illinois State which begins its spring workouts on Tuesday, March 4, at Hancock Stadium.

This year's spring camp coverage will feature periodic camp reports, video highlights and photos scheduled to be posted on GoRedbirds.com, the official home of Illinois State Athletics. Selected content will also be posted throughout camp on Redbird Football's social media accounts on X (@RedbirdFB), Instagram (@isuredbirdfb) and Facebook.

The Redbirds are led by veteran head coach Brock Spack, who begins his 17th season at the helm of the program.  In his 16 previous seasons as head coach, Spack has posted an overall record of 111-74 (.600) and a mark of 70-54 (.564) in Missouri Valley Football Conference play. During that time, the Redbirds have posted 12 seasons with winning percentages of .500 or better, including a 13-2 record in 2014 on way to the FCS National Championship game.

For the third time in his career at Illinois State, head coach Brock Spack was named a finalist for the Stats Perform Eddie Robinson Award in 2024, which is presented annually to the national coach of the year in Division I FCS college football. One of 15 national finalists, Spack was also up for the honor in 2012 and 2014 after playoff seasons. Spack led the Redbirds to a 10-4 overall record
in 2024 and a 6-2 mark in Missouri Valley Football Conference play during the regular season, which earned his squad the No. 12 national seed in the FCS Playoffs. The Redbirds advanced to the second round, after a first-round victory at Southeast Missouri State before falling to No. 5 national seed UC Davis on the road.

Practices will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday at Hancock Stadium (with an off week for spring break) and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. All practices are open to the public, except for the March 29 and April 5 closed team scrimmages. The annual Spring Showcase scrimmage is set to take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, and will be broadcast live on AM 1230 WJBC in the Twin Cities.
