Rob Dob’s to Host Basketball Coaches Show Tonight
NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State Basketball Coaches Show, presented by The O'Brien Auto Team, featuring Illinois State men's basketball head coach Ryan Pedon and women's basketball head coach Kristen Gillespie, will air tonight live at Rob Dob's Restaurant and Bar in Bloomington.
Fans unable to attend the show can listen on WJBC 1230 AM, the Varsity Network, and on GoRedbirds.com., as Pedon and Gillespie recap last week's action and look ahead in postseason play.
Gillespie's segment of the show, hosted by Greg Halbleib, starts at 6 p.m. She will be joined by graduate guards Maya Wong and Elyce Knudsen. Wong is the program's all-time leader with 153 career games played and ranks fifth in program history with 525 career assists. Knudsen is an MVC-best five-time Valley Newcomer of the Week honoree, including the final two awards of the season.
The Redbirds are coming off a 99-86 win over Southern Illinois to close the regular season last week. Knudsen (28 points) and Shannon Dowell (25 points) combined for 53 points as the Redbirds outpaced the Salukis Saturday in Carbondale. No.5 seed Illinois State is set for a rematch with No.12 seed Southern Illinois Thursday in the opening round of the Credit Union 1 MVC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Ford Center in Evansville. Tipoff is slated for 2:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to play No.4 seed Drake Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Pedon's portion of the show starts at 6:45 p.m. and is hosted by John Fitzgerald and Mike Matthews. He will be joined by assistant coach Rob Judson, who is retiring at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season after a more than 30-year coaching career that includes two-stints as an assistant coach with the Redbirds.
Illinois State is set to embark on its first postseason tournament under Pedon as the Redbirds have accepted a bid to play in the 17th College Basketball Invitational (CBI) presented by Purple. The Redbirds will find out the bracket, including their first opponent in the tournament, on Sunday, March 16.
