Birds Fly Past the Panthers, 6-1
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (9-6, 2-0 MVC) defeated the UNI Panthers (3-12, 0-2 MVC) by a score of 6-1 inside Evergreen Racquet Club on Saturday (Mar. 29).
In doubles play, the Birds picked up the points courtesy of wins from Lana Caculovic (Dugo Selo, Croatia) at No. 1 and Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) by a score of 7-6 against Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cordoso. At No. 2, Nuria Sanz (Valencia, Spain) and Nicole Iosio (Cordenons, Italy) secured a 6-1 win over Abbie Peterson and Lasya Mylavarapu.
As competition shifted to singles competition, the Redbirds collected five wins. At No. 1, Pomarolli battled to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Dalecka. Lana Caculovic recorded the second win of the day by a score of 6-4, 6-2 against Cordoso. Sanz played to a tiebreaker at the No. 4 position defeating Raznatovic, 6-2, 7-6 (6), 10-2. Jankulovska continued the momentum against Peterson, winning by a final score of 6-2, 6-0. Iosio rounded out the contest taking down Mylavarapu of the Panthers in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
