Redbirds Drop 4-3 Decision at Murray State
MURRAY, KY– The Illinois State women's tennis team (10-7, 3-1 MVC) dropped a 4-3 decision against the Murray State Racers (10-6, 3-0 MVC) on Friday (April. 4) inside Diamond Sports Indoor Facility.
In doubles play, the No. 2 pair of freshman Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) picked up the first win of the day for the Redbirds by a score of 6-4 over Yu Kikawa and Yuna Kadowaki. At No. 3, freshman Nicole Iosio (Cordenons, Italy) and senior Zoe Limparis (Hinsdale, Ill.) battled to a 6-4 win against MSU's Paola Campigotto and Varvara Alexeyeva to secure the ISU doubles point.
As competition shifted to singles play, the Redbirds picked up two wins thanks to Iosio who defeated Bruna Melato in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. Sophie Marie Lowe (Wimbledon, Great Britain) battled to take the second win of the day for the Birds by a final of 7(7)-6(3), 6-4, 1 (10)-0 (3) via the tiebreaker in thrilling fashion.
