Birds Cruise to 6-1 Victory at Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (12-6, 5-1 MVC) defeated the Valparaiso Beacons (3-14, 0-6 MVC) inside Valpo Tennis Complex on Saturday by a score of 6-1.
The Birds picked up the doubles point with a win from the freshman pair Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and Nicole Iosio (Cordenons Italy) at the No. 2 position by a score of 6-2. At No. 3, freshman Sophie Marie Lowe (Wimbledon, Great Britain) and junior Zoe Limparis secured a win via a Valparaiso withdrawal.
As play shifted to singles play, four Redbirds recorded victories. Junior Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) picked up a win over Jolene Fernandes via the tiebreaker by a score of 6 (3)-7 (7), 6-3, 1 (10)-0 (7). Lindh secured the second win of the day in straight-sets against Brynn Steven of Valpo 6-3, 6-3. At No. 4, Iosio battled to a 7 (7)- 6 (2), 6-4 victory against Lacey Tanner. The final win for the Birds came thanks to Lowe who knocked off Lillian Kelly in straight-sets 6-4, 7-5.
