- Apr 67:00 PMPercussion EnsembleISU Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Collier and Dr. Ben Stiers, will present their spring concert in the Concert Hall of the Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Illinois State University. Tickets are available at the CPA Box Office The spring program explores the unique rhythmic and timbral combinations that are possible with small and large percussion groupings. Sunday’s concert begins with Gravity by Marc Melits. This quintet for 5 keyboard percussion instruments explores the energy and excitement found in subtle rhythmic and harmonic changes over time. Following this the ensemble will perform two selections from Jessica Flannigan’s Quartets that Travel which showcase smaller, unpitched percussion instruments in constantly evolving grooves. In the center of the program is La Mancha, composed by Ethan Prado, a graduate student the School of Music Composition Program. Prado says that “…La Mancha is a nod to Miguel de Cdrvantes’s novel Don Quixote…” This will followed with We Are Heroes, a trio by Adam Tan. Tan says of the piece that “… the “heroes” in We Are Heroes is intended to represent everyday people who do things for others…” The concert will conclude with Have You Ever Seen the Grand Canyon? by Brian Nozny, a sprawling work for 12 players conducted by Dr. Ben Stiers.Hosted by: School of Music, Wonsook Kim College of Fine ArtsAdditional Information can be found at: https://redbirdlife.illinoisstate.edu/event/11211668
