Redbirds Wrap Up Day One In Oxford

The Illinois State track & field team wrapped up action from day one of the Joe Walker Invitational Friday evening at Prefontaine Stadium.

OXFORD, Miss. –  The Illinois State track & field team wrapped up action from day one of the Joe Walker Invitational Friday evening at Prefontaine Stadium.

Due to the threat of potential severe weather, festivities from day two will begin at 9:00 a.m. 

Through four events in the women's heptathlon, Senior Gracie Jessup sits in 11th place with 2774 points. Freshman Sydney Skarich stands in 17th place with 2608 points. Action from the heptathlon will resume at 9:15 a.m., with the long jump as the first event.

As day one began to close out, Junior Yusuf Baig recorded a top-10 mark in the men's 1500m. Baig recorded a time of 3:47.1,2 and he now sits 10th in Redbird history. On the women's side, Sophomore Grace Erb recorded a time of 4:34.72 to finish eighth.

In the men's 200m, Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. secured the win with a season-best time of 21.11. Junior Lindsey Miller ran a time of 24.57 in the women's 200m to finish 11th.

In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Astrid Van Breedam secured the win with a mark of 10:51.48

Junior Rob Pulliam notched a new personal best in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.05m (23-1.75). Pulliam's mark was also enough to secure a fifth-place finish. Freshman Victor Byaundaombe finished in eighth with a season best jump of 6.90m (22-7.75)

On the women's side, Senior Madison Saunders recorded a jump of 5.66m (18-7) to finish eighth, as Sophomore Ava Lawless set a new season-best with a jump of 5.64m (18-6) to finish ninth.

Sophomore Cole Stevens tallied a new personal best in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 54.03m (177-3). Stevens' mark comes after he recorded a career-best last week at the Redbird Challenge. On the women's side, Sophomore Adison Scott earned an 11th-place finish with a throw of 46.85m (153-8). 

Freshman Heath Hawkins recorded his best mark in Redbird colors after clearance of 4.78m (15-8.25). Junior Charles Cruse cleared the bar at 4.93 (16-2) to finish in seventh.

In the women's javelin throw, Senior Kiley Sanders recorded a throw of 39.74m (130-4). Sanders' throw was enough to see her finish in fifth-place.

Sophomore Colleen Zeibert recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's 800m at 2:09.89.

Freshman Blake Oleson tallied a time of 15:28.78 in the men's 15:28.78.
