Redbirds Squad Split To Compete In California & Texas

The Illinois State track & field program is slated to compete at two meets this weekend.

NORMAL, Ill. –  The Illinois State track & field program is slated to compete at two meets this weekend.

On Wednesday, members of the Redbirds squad will battle it out on the west coast at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. On Friday, Illinois State will compete at the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor. This year's trip to the west coast marks the third consecutive year the Redbirds to Azusa, Calif. Illinois State also returns to the Michael Johnson Invitational for the first time since April 2023.

The Illinois State squad splits after gaining momentum at the Normal Invite, which saw the Redbirds break two school records, six top-10 list entries, and claim 15 event wins.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sophomore Immaculate Daniel was awarded this week's MVC Female Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Normal Invite. Daniel broke the school record for the 100m twice on Saturday, with her fastest time being 11.33. Daniel's mark now sits as the fastest time in the Missouri Valley Conference and fourth in the Midwest region.

In the 100m hurdles, the Redbirds saw three top-10 list entries that include Junior Erin Starks, Senior Corrina Courser, and Junior Macee Rivers. Starks set the fastest time in the prelims after she ran a mark of 13.64 as Courser followed with a time of 13.69. Later, in the finals, Rivers rounded out the trio with a time of 13.77.

In the women's 4x100m, the team of Starks, Flowers, Miller, and Daniel claimed a top-10 mark with a time of 44.87. Their mark currently sits fourth in Illinois State history.
