Redbird Pair Earn MVC Golfer of Week Honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Illinois State duo of Will Troy and TJ Barger have each been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for their performances at the Hawkeye Invite at Finkbine Golf Course.
The pair carded tournament scores of 212 (-4) and tied for fifth overall in the strong tournament field.
Troy had rounds of 67, 68, and 77 for his 212, while Barger shot scores of 74, 66, and 72.
For Barger, it is his fifth Golfer of the Week honor this season, and he is second on the team in stroke average (73.2) and is a solitary shot behind ISU leader Alex McCulla. This season he has 11 rounds at or under par, with four top-10 finishes. His stroke average is tied for the fifth-lowest scoring average in program history by a junior.
Troy is third on the team in scoring average at 74.1 strokes per round, and he has four top-10 finishes and 12 rounds at or under par, the latter of which is the 11th-most in a season by an ISU senior in program history. He has four rounds in the 60's this season, with three of them coming in his last five rounds. His fifth-place finish at the Hawkeye Invite was his second top-five finish this season, as he also placed fifth at the Purdie Invitational in September.
The Redbirds' co-honor sends the squad into the weekend of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, hosted at Des Moines Country Club in Des Moines, Iowa on April 20-22.
