Redbirds Earn Three Top-10 Marks to Close Out Joe Walker Invite
OXFORD, Miss. – The Illinois State track & field team closed out the Joe Walker Invitational Saturday afternoon at Prefontaine Stadium.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Reed, Nwagwu, Paul, and Curtis recorded a top-10 time of 40.45 to finish third. The mark is now tied for the sixth fastest time in Redbird history. On the women's side, the team of Daniel, Miller, Flowers, and Starks earned a season-best time of 45.55 in runner-up effort.
Later in the afternoon, the men's 4x400m relay team of Welch, Nwagwu, Paul, and Watson also tallied a top-10 mark after running a time of 3:09.35 to finish second. On the women's side, Flowers, Mpama, Starks, and Miller recorded a season-best effort after running a time of 3:44.51.
Sophomore Garrett Taylor notched a top-10 mark in the men's shot put after recording a throw of 17.04m. Taylor's throw saw him reach the finals and finish sixth overall. Sophomore teammate Cole Stevens also moved into the final round and finished seventh overall with a throw of 16.27m (53-4.50).
Taylor also earned a third-place finish in the men's discus competition as he recorded a throw of 53.76m (176-4). On the women's side, Sophomore Adison Scott tallied a throw of 42.69m (140-0) to finish seventh.
A trio of Redbirds earned personal best marks in the women's 1500m. Sophomore Colleen Zeibert paced the Redbirds, earning a first-place finish with a time of 4:34.97. Junior Maggie Reed followed with a runner-up finish, running a time of 4:39.88, as Freshman Astrid Van Breedam earned a third-place finish with a mark of 4:42.94.
Sophomore Jonathan Tegel and Senior Cade Ward earned new personal best marks in the men's 400m with times of 54.81 and 55.47.
In the women's 100m hurdles, Junior Macee Rivers ran a season-best time of 13.80 to finish second. Senior Corrina Courser finished in fourth with a time of 13.87.
Senior Lindsey Miller earned a podium finish after crossing the line third in the women's 100m after she ran a time of 11.70. On the men's side, Freshman Zach Paul ran a time of 10.42 to finish fifth. Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. followed to finish eighth with a time of 10.53.
Sophomore Grace Erb tallied a podium finish after she finished in third place in the women's 800m, running a time of 2:13.97. On the men's side, Sophomore Kane Shields finished seventh with a mark of 1:52.82.
In the men's high jump, Junior Rob Pulliam recorded a season-best mark, clearing the bar at 2.05m (6-8.25) to finish in third place. Freshman Trey Thomas finished in 11th place with a clearance at 1.94m (6-4.25). On the women's side, Kiley Sanders recorded an eighth-place finish with a jump of 1.60m (5-3).
Freshman Victor Byaundaombe tallied a runner-up finish in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.51m (47-7.25). On the women's side, Sophomore Ava Lawless recorded an eighth-place finish with a jump of 11.69m (38-4.25).
Sophomore Chidiogo Odeluga got to compete against her cousin, Akaoma, a thrower at Ole Miss, for the first time in their collegiate careers in the women's shot put. Chidiogo finished in ninth place with a throw of 12.89m (42-3.50).

The Redbirds return home on Friday, April 11, for the Normal Invite. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday.
