Track & Field Picks Up Two Top-10 Marks At Fighting Illini Twilight Saturday
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois State track & field program wrapped up the Fighting Illini Twilight in Champaign, Ill. Saturday afternoon at Demirjian Park.
Junior Enyinnaya Nwagwu Jr. tallied a new top-10 time in the 200m with a time of 20.93. Nwagwu now sits seventh in program history. Junior Lindsey Miller ran a time of 23.53 to finish third on the women's side.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Reed, Nwagwu, Curtis, and Paul recorded a new season-best time and moved to fifth all-time with a mark of 40.45. In the women's race, the Redbirds squad of Miller, Daniel, Starks, and Flowers secured the win after running a time of 45.26
In the men's 3000m steeplechase, Illinois State swept the top three spots as Freshman Will Gelon paced the Redbirds with a personal best time of 9:25.68. Sophomore Ethan Reynoso closely followed Gelon with a mark of 9:25.69. Freshman Luke Barham wrapped up the podium with a time of 9:28.04.
In the women's race, Junior Maggie Reed earned the highest finish for the Redbirds with a personal best time of 10:50.33. Freshman Astrid Van Breedam finished one place behind Reed in fifth after running a mark of 10:58.15.
Junior Jake Welch recorded the win in the men's 400m with a mark of 48.13. In the women's heats, Sophomore Chavi Flowers picked up a new personal best time in the 400m with a time of 55.38 to finish fourth.
Sophomore Colleen Zeibert claimed the win in the 800m after running a time of 2:11.34. Junior Garret Slack recorded the highest finish for Illinois State in the men's event after finishing sixth with a time of 1:54.62. Sophomore Owen O'Shea finished in eighth with a personal best time of 1:55.03
Senior Corrina Courser earned a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.36. Courser's mark sits 22nd in the NCAA Division I West rankings. Junior Erin Starks finished in third after running a time of 13.41 and now sits 29th in the NCAA Division I West rankings. On the men's side as the sole runner for the Redbirds, Senior Kevyere Mack recorded a sixth-place finish with a mark of 14.62.
Sophomore Cambria Geyer recorded a personal best time in the 400m hurdles to finish fourth for the Redbirds with a mark of 1:02.34. In her first-ever 400m hurdles race, Courser finished seventh with a time of 1:05.54.
Freshman Reece Curtis led the way for Illinois State with a runner-up finish after running a time of 10.46 in the 100m. Sophomore Jaiden Reed followed with a fourth-place finish with a mark of 10.65. In the women's heats, Miller tallied a third-place finish with a time of 11.71. Freshman Kristyn Johnson ran a mark of 12.08 to place fifth.
Sophomore Grace Erb ran a time of 4:34.25 in the women's 1500m to finish seventh, one place behind former Redbird Claire Fuhlage, who was competing unattached. On the men's side, Sophomore Kane Shields paced Illinois State with a time of 3:48.86 to finish fourth. Freshman Julian Baker followed to finish sixth with a mark of 3:50.69.
Senior Lauren Schulze returned to make her outdoor season debut and recorded a personal best time of 17:31.70 in the women's 5000m. Freshman Blake Oleson also tallied a new personal best mark with a time of 14:45.38 to finish third.
In the men's 4x400m, two Redbird teams squared off with the 'A' team of Welch, Paul, Watson, and Nwagwu taking the win with a time of 3:10.91.
To kick off the field events, Senior Windsor Roberts finished runner-up in pole vault with a season-best clearance of 3.97m (13-0.25). On the men's side, Senior Ariel Atias also recorded a season-best, clearing the bar at 4.73m (15-6.25).
Freshman Sydney Skarich won the women's javelin throw with a new personal record of 41.20m (135-2). Sophomore Gracie Jessup wrapped up a 1-2 finish with a mark of 37.97m (124-7). On the men's side, Atias claimed the win with a season-best throw of 57.81m (189-8).
Senior Kiley Sanders tallied a runner-up finish in women's high jump with a jump of 1.60m (5-3).
In the women's triple jump, Senior Madison Saunders finished fifth with a leap of 12.05m (39-6.50). Sophomore Ava Lawless finished one spot behind in fifth with a mark of 11.65m (38-2.75). On the men's side, Junior Rob Pulliam claimed second place with a jump of 14.70m (48-2.75). Freshman Victor Byaundaombe placed third with a leap of 14.61m (47-11.25).
Sophomore Ryan Schaefer claimed a new personal best with a jump of 7.14m (23-5.25) to finish fourth in the men's long jump. Senior Atleigh Hamilton placed seventh on the women's side with a mark of 5.63m (18-5.75)
In the women's hammer throw, Sophomore Adison Scott tallied a personal best with a throw of 50.21m (164-8) to finish seventh. On the men's side, Sophomore Cole Stevens finished sixth with a mark of 54.03m (177-3).
Freshman Brianna Brodie recorded a personal best throw of 44.81m (147-0) to finish fifth in discus. Freshman Morgan Foes also tallied a personal best with a mark of 41.40m (135-10) to finish seventh. Sophomore Garrett Taylor led the way for the men's discus throwers with a runner-up finish after recording a throw of 52.26m (171-5). Junior Jacob Rollins finished fourth with a mark of 48.53m (159-2).
Freshman Chidiogo Odeluga tallied a season-best mark of 12.99m (42-7.50) to finish third. On the men's side, Taylor finished fifth, the highest of all Redbirds, with a throw of 16.98m (55-8.50).
