Birds Fall to UIC in Windy City, 5-2
CHICAGO, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (12-7, 5-2 MVC) fell to the UIC Flames (14-4, 6-1 MVC) on Sunday by a score of 5-2 inside XS Tennis Village.
The Birds picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 from juniors Lana Caculovic (Dugo Selo, Croatia) and Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) over UIC's Liu and Ushio by a score of 6-3. At No. 2, freshman Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) battled to a 6-3 victory over the Flames Cosmo and Belberka.
As play shifted to singles competition, Pomarolli picked up a win over UIC's Edit Cosmo in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
