Birds Fall to UIC in Windy City, 5-2

The Illinois State women's tennis team (12-7, 5-2 MVC) fell to the UIC Flames (14-4, 6-1 MVC) on Sunday by a score of 5-2 inside XS Tennis Village.

CHICAGO, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (12-7, 5-2 MVC) fell to the UIC Flames (14-4, 6-1 MVC) on Sunday by a score of 5-2 inside XS Tennis Village.

The Birds picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1  from juniors Lana Caculovic (Dugo Selo, Croatia) and Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) over UIC's Liu and Ushio by a score of 6-3. At No. 2, freshman Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) battled to a 6-3 victory over the Flames Cosmo and Belberka.

As play shifted to singles competition, Pomarolli picked up a win over UIC's Edit Cosmo in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3.

DOUBLES:

No. 1- Lana Caculovic/Silvia Pomarolli (ISU) def. Liu/Ushio (UIC) 6-3

No. 2- Emma Lindh/Elena Jankulovska (ISU) def. Cosmo/Belberka (UIC) 6-3

No. 3- Cooper/Rodriguez Gregoris (UIC) def. Nicole Iosio/Zoe Limparis (ISU) 7-6 (3)

SINGLES:

No. 1- Ushio (UIC) def. Lana Caculovic (ISU) 6-1, 7-6 (1)

No. 2- Silvia Pomarolli (ISU) def. Cosmo (UIC) 6-4, 6-3

No. 3- Belberka (UIC) def. Emma Lindh (ISU) 6-1, 6-0

No. 4- Halbersztedt (UIC) def. Elena Jankulovska (ISU) 6-1, 7-5

No. 5- Liu (UIC) def. Nicole Sanz (ISU) 7-6 (3), 6-3

No. 6- Cooper (UIC) def. Nicole Iosio (ISU) 6-2, 7-5

UP NEXT-

Illinois State will return home for the final home match of the year as they host the Belmont Bruins on April 18 inside Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m.
