Pacella Earns MVC Player of The Week Honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Following a stellar four-game stretch, junior Daniel Pacella was awarded MVC Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office Monday.
Pacella is the third Redbird this season to win a weekly MVC award, joining Tyrelle Chadwick (March 18) and Brayden Bakes (March 24).
The Mundelein, Ill. native led the Redbirds with nine hits over 17 at-bats (.529) as the Redbirds picked up a midweek victory over Illinois before securing a weekend sweep over Evansville at Duffy Bass Field.
Against the Illini, Pacella finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs, and two runs scored as part of a 14-4 run-rule win for the Birds.
With his four RBIs against the Illini last Tuesday, Pacella moved into fourth all-time in program history with 153 career RBIs. He now sits with 155 in his Redbird career, three away from the program's top three.
The southpaw would finish the week against Evansville going 5-for-12 at the plate with a double, two RBIs, and four runs scored. He added two walks and two hit by pitches for an on-base percentage of .563 over the weekend.
Heading into the week ahead, Pacella leads the Missouri Valley Conference in batting average (.407), slugging percentage (.756), OPS (1.244), and hits (55).
The Redbirds will return to action at 11 AM CT Friday to begin a three-game MVC series against Bradley from Dozer Park in Peoria.
