SPRING CAMP REPORT: Crisp Second Scrimmage For The Birds
NORMAL, Ill. – The action was crisp on Saturday morning, as were the temperatures as the Redbirds worked through an 8-plus play scrimmage in just over an hour at Hancock Stadium. The scrimmage was the second of the spring for the Redbirds, who will officially close out Spring Camp '25 next Saturday with their annual Spring Showcase scrimmage at 1 p.m.
The scrimmage featured several situations, including driving the field, coming out of the end zone, red zone, overtime and two-minute drills.
Scoring Summary:
• The first score of the scrimmage came via a 21-yard field goal by Michael Cosentino, which capped off a 15-play scoring drive for the Redbirds.
• The first touchdown of the day came during the Red Zone period, as transfer running back Victor Dawson plowed his way into the end zone from five yards out for the touchdown.
• The second field goal make of the day by Cosentino, this one from 27 yards out, would put three more points on the board for the offense during the second drive the field period.
• Dawson would find the end zone once again during the overtime period, as he ran it in from three yards out for his second score of the game.
• On the next overtime possession, quarterback Beckham Pellant did it all for the Redbirds as he connected on a 24-yard pass to Gavin Camp to the one-yard line before he called his own number and ran it in for a touchdown for the final score of the game.

However, Drake (13-20, 5-6 MVC) added an insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning which would prove to be the winning run as the Redbirds (11-25, 5-7 MVC) were able to score a run in the seventh but it was not enough in a 2-1 defeat to the Bulldogs on Saturday at Ron Buel Field.
