- 4:00 PM1hAnne and Stephen Matter Artist Lecture: Luis GispertLuis Gispert "is a multi-disciplinary artist addressing a variety of topics in his work, such as the infiltration of subcultures on mainstream society. Concepts surrounding American culture and the fetishization of value have inspired the artist over the years, and those interests continue to serve as the basis from which all his ideas evolve. Gispert’s work acts as a composite, melding what is familiar with the unexpected. His aesthetic leans toward theatric, as his seductive imagery delivers a blend of opulent artifice with clever indications of acute subtexts." (Quoted from artist's official bio; see Morán Morán Gallery for more.) Gispert's work has been exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; Art Pace, San Antonio; Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College; Berkeley Museum of Art, Berkeley University; MoMA PS1, New York; Royal Academy of Art, London; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University; Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; and MIT List Visual Arts Center, among others. His work is included in the collections of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art; and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Gispert studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received his MFA from Yale University.Hosted by: University Galleries, Wonsook Kim School of ArtAdditional Information can be found at: https://redbirdlife.illinoisstate.edu/event/11232429
