In a fall preview of Missouri Valley Conference action, Illinois State hosted the remainder of their conference opponents at the Redbird Invitational on Friday at Gregory Street Courts in Normal. The annual event was tweaked this year to mimic the previous MVC Individual Championships, which were previously held each fall but were discontinue this year.

Scoring 14 of the final 18 points in the third set, the Illinois State Redbirds came from behind in the final set to secure a sweep over the Indiana State Sycamores in the opening MVC match of the season for each of the teams.

The Illinois State Cross Country squad competed in the seventh-annual Gans Creek Classic on Friday morning. The men's squad took eighth in the Black Invite among 26 teams, while the women earned sixth out of 27 teams.
