- Jan 248:00 AMMLK Day of Service: Midwest Food BankDr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a National Day of Service to honor Dr. King's commitment and contributions to the Civil Rights Movement and social justice. Join the Center for Civic Engagement and people across the nation as we serve our local community in Dr. King's memory. To attend, RSVP yes to this event on Redbird Life AND register through THIS LINK to participate. An RSVP on this event alone does not secure your spot. Spots are limited to 25 volunteers, so if you registered but are no longer able to attend, please cancel your registration through Midwest Food Bank and change your RSVP for this event to no. Our 2025 service project will be with Midwest Food Bank. We will meet at the Center for Civic Engagement at 8 AM for check-in and a short pre-reflection on the role of food security in social justice. The group will drive from there to the Midwest Food Bank at 8:30 AM. Transportation will be provided to anyone who needs it. Service will take place at Midwest Food Bank from 9 - 11 am, then volunteers will be brought back to the Center for Civic Engagement. About the Midwest Food Bank: From the Midwest Food Bank Normal, IL location, 461 local nonprofit partners, schools, and food pantries are supplied with life-giving food each month. These valued partners then distribute food to 132,000 neighbors in need throughout Central and Southern Illinois. In addition, collaborating with local schools, Midwest Food Bank Normal committed to supplying food packs every Friday for 2,975 children who would not otherwise have food on the weekends throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
