Birds Conclude Regular Season with Senior Day against Belmont
BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (12-7, 5-2 MVC) will return home and conclude the regular season as they host the Belmont Bruins (5-13, 4-2 MVC) inside Evergreen Racquet Club on Friday, April 18. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
SENIOR DAY
Prior to Friday's match with the Bruins, the Birds will honor graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) who has spent five years as a member of the Illinois State women's tennis program.
LAST TIME OUT
ISU fell to the UIC Flames on Sunday (April, 13) by a score of 5-2 inside XS Tennis Village.
The Birds picked up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 from juniors Lana Caculovic (Dugo Selo, Croatia) and Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) over UIC's Liu and Ushio by a score of 6-3. At No. 2, freshman Emma Lindh (Malmo, Sweden) and graduate student Elena Jankulovska (Skopje, Macedonia) battled to a 6-3 victory over the Flames Cosmo and Belberka.
As play shifted to singles competition, Pomarolli picked up a win over UIC's Edit Cosmo in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
Belmont most recently defeated Missouri State by a score of 5-2 inside Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, MO.
The Bruins were led by Aly Getty and Anastasiya Zholdakova at the No. 2 doubles pair as the duo defeated MSU's Sandra Lukacova and Raluca Puscas by a 6-3 margin. In singles competition, Zholdakova cruised past Tuana Gunal of the Bears by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
