Valencia, Dibildox Compete On Day 1 at ITA Conference Masters Championships
SAN DIEGO – The Illinois State men's tennis duo of Tomas Valencia and Adrian Dibildox competed on the first day of the ITA Conference Masters Championships on Thursday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Valencia competed first on the singles side and he picked up win in the Round of 32, as he defeated Alberto Altur of North Alabama by a score of 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the Round of 16 later in the day. In that match, Valencia was matched up against Maxime Dubouch of Memphis and it was Dubouch who came away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Valencia to move on in the bracket.
Later in the afternoon, Valencia teamed up with Dibildox to take on the team of Takumi Katsuda and Vincent Vohl of Northern Arizona in the first round of doubles play. After the Redbirds won the first set, 6-2, the duo from Northern Arizona took the second set 6-1 to send the match to a third-set tiebreaker. In the final set, Valencia and Dibildox picked up the victory by a score of 10-7 to advance to the Round of 16 on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT against the team of Oscar Martinez and Martin Vergara Del Puerto of East Tennessee State.
