Day Two Of Redbird Invitational Wraps Up With Redbird Wins
NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team had a bit of a bounce back on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the Redbird Invitational, as Silvia Pomarolli and Nuria Sanz each advanced to the consolation singles finals in their respective flights and Sanz and Emma Lind will play for a doubles title on Sunday at the Gregory Street Courts.
Sanz and Lind won once again in Flight 2 doubles, rolling to an 8-1 win over the team of Halbersztadt and Vlaisavljevic of UIC. They will play for the flight championship tomorrow, against Jones and Tapia-Cruz from Belmont. Lana Caculovic and Pomarolli will also play for a consolation title, as they picked up a win over Li and Raznatovic of UNI, 8-0.
In singles action, Caculovic will play for third place after winning on Friday but falling in the winner's bracket on Saturday. However, Pomarolli and Sanz each advanced to the consolation finals with 6-2, 6-3 wins over their opponents in Flights 2 and 3, respectively.
Day three of the Redbird Invitational begins at 9 a.m. Sunday morning with doubles finals matches, followed by singles finals matches in the afternoon.
