Ostro Named Summit League Men's Tennis Scholar of the Championships
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-- Illinois State junior Tin Ostro (Zagreb, Croatia) was selected as the Summit League Men's Tennis Scholar of the Championships (presented by JLG Architects) by the league office on Friday.
Head coach Mark Klysner is proud of Ostro for receiving this award for the conference. "I couldn't be more proud of Tin receiving this award. This is a very prestigious honor and Tin is deserving as anyone could be to receive this award. I'm so happy for him and again it's well deserved," Klysner said.
The Scholar of the Championship award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative undergraduate grade-point average participating at each of the Summit League's 19 championships. Each institution that is participating in a Summit League championship is eligible to submit one nominee for the Scholar of the Championship award.
Ostro will come into the Summit League Championships with a 8-11 singles record and posted a 2-1 doubles record with Tomas Valencia. Key wins included a 6-4, 6-1 win vs Marquette on Jan 19, 2025 at the No. 3 position against Remi St. Laurent and a win via the tiebreaker against Western Michigan's Brogan Pierce by scores of 7-5, 1-6, 7-1.
A season ago, Ostro was awarded All-Summit League First Team Honors and was a Summit-League Academic All-League team Selection. He recorded a 13-9 singles mark and went 3-2 in Summit League play in 2024.
Ostro and the No. 4 seeded Redbirds take on the No. 1 seeded Denver Pioneers in the second semifinal of the Summit League Championships at 1:00 p.m. CT. He will be presented his award prior to the match in Denver.
