Redbirds Set For UIC Challenge On Senior Night
NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer returns to Adelaide Street Field Sunday afternoon for a contest with UIC on Senior Night. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
Ahead of kickoff, four Redbirds will be recognized for Senior Night. Seniors Jade Rehberger and Abby Hall, alongside Redshirt Juniors Kate Nonn and Sammi Cenek, will be honored during pre-game ceremonies.
The Redbirds enter Sunday's contest with the Flames after extending their unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-0 victory over UNI on Saturday. Cenek scored her first goal of the season to lift Illinois State past UNI.
With the shutout, Illinois State recorded its ninth shutout of the campaign, the most in a season since 2019. Redshirt Sophomore Madi Valenti tallied her 13th career shutout on Saturday and moved to fifth all-time in program history for career shutout totals. In the last 11 games, Illinois State has only conceded two goals.
Freshman Grace Petrie received recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference league office for the second consecutive week after earning Freshman of the Week honors following her performance against the Panthers on Saturday. Petrie's award marks the seventh straight week a Redbird has received a weekly recognition.
The Flames enter Sunday's meeting after recording their first MVC win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Drake. UIC is led by David Nikolic, who enters his fifth season at the helm of the Flames after previous stints at Milwaukee and Northwestern as an assistant coach.
