Birds Travel to California for matches against Utah State, UC-Irvine
IRVINE, Calif.-- The Illinois State women's tennis team (6-5) will travel to California to matches against Utah State (4-4) and UC-Irvine (5-5) inside UCI Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
The Illinois State women's tennis team (6-5) dropped a non-conference match to SIUE (10-2) of the Ohio Valley Conference by a final score of 4-2 on March 7 inside Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
In doubles play, the No. 1 pair, juniors Silvia Pomarolli (Cecina, Italy) and Lana Caculovic (Dugo Selo, Croatia) defeated Amelia Gorman/Cydney Rogers of SIUE by a score of 6-4. At No. 3, freshman Nicole Iosio (Cordenons, Italy) and junior Nuria Sanz(Valencia, Spain) cruised past Paige Duncan/Chloe Koons, 6-4.
As play shifted to singles competition, Caculovic picked up a win against Margaux Britt Guibal of the Cougars by scores of 6-0, 7-6 at the No. 2 position.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Utah State (Mountain West Conference) picked up a win against Idaho State on February 26 in Pocatello, ID by a narrow 4-3 margin. At No. 2 doubles , Indya Nespor and Cielo Cruz-Tapia picked up a win against Millie Day/Sydney Morris by a score of 6-3. In singles play, Nespor knocked off Stefanya Shalakhova in straight-sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS
UC-Irvine (Big West Conference) is coming off a sweep of the UTEP Roadrunners on March 2 on the road inside El Paso Tennis Club. At No. 3 Yen Nhi Huynh took a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Paloma Hennicaux of the Roadrunners. In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of Kayla Meraz and Amanda Perez defeated Carlotta Mencaglia/Hanna Telzynska of UTEP by a 6-3 final score.

The Birds will travel to Peoria for the I-74 rivalry with Bradley University on March. 22, First serve between the Redbirds and Braves will be at 1 p.m.
