Video: First College of Engineering students gather for weeklong summer camp

More than 20 freshmen from the College of Engineering‘s first cohort gathered on Illinois State University’s campus for a weeklong camp at the end of July, three weeks before the fall semester begins.

Dr. Salil Bavdekar, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering, said the camp was designed to help incoming Engineering students prepare for college, both inside and outside of the classroom.

“The whole idea of this is to really get them using their hands, to get them building something from design to build, to test and then refine that design and have a working prototype by the end of the camp,” Bavdekar said. “The second part of this camp, which I think is actually probably the more important one, is for them to just meet other people who are coming in and make some friends.”
