Illinois State University Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) ratify contract
Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) at Illinois State University, represented by Service Employees International Union Local (SEIU) 73, have overwhelmingly ratified their new contract, which is effective as of March 1, 2024. The contract includes some stipend increases retroactive prior to this date and expires in June 2026.
Over the following weeks, Illinois State Human Resources will work with the Graduate School and other campus partners to implement the new contract. Once available, the new contract book will be posted to the Human Resources webpage and an updated Graduate School Handbook will be posted on the Graduate School’s webpage.
“We appreciate the strong vote from members of SEIU Local 73 to ratify a competitive, sustainable, and fiscally responsible settlement agreement after nearly a year of negotiations,” stated Chris Coplan, Illinois State spokesperson.
Illinois State currently employs approximately 440 GTAs. This is the second contract negotiated between the union and the University. Additional information can be found at seiunegotiations.illinoisstate.edu, the website created by the University to keep the campus community informed of the status of negotiations.
