20 Illinois State University faculty recognized on global list of top cited scientists
New data from the 2024 calendar year published by the Elsevier Data Repository in Fall 2025 names 20 scientists from Illinois State University in the top two percent (top 100,000) of cited researchers globally. The top cited scientist list is an increase for the University from 14 in 2023 with new data based on the August 1, 2025 snapshot from Scopus through the end of citation year 2024. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, and reviewed for single-year citations and career citations. Thirteen of the 20 Illinois State scientists were recognized on both lists.
“This list illustrates the scientific impact our Redbird faculty researchers contribute to their respective fields on a global scale,” said Illinois State University Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Craig C. McLauchlan. “Citation metrics are just one indicator of how we are making progress on our institutional vision of connecting teaching, research, innovation, and intercultural understanding as outlined in our strategic plan, Excellence by Design: 2024-2030.”
The 20 faculty represent four different colleges across the University.
