Volunteers needed for Pass It On during Move-Out 2025
The Office of Sustainability is looking for campus and community members to volunteer at Pass It On Donation Stations during Move-Out this year.
The Pass It On project started at ISU over 30 years ago with a passionate group of social work students and their professors. In recent years, the Office of Sustainability began collaborating with University Housing to collect all Pass It On donations during Move-Out, sort them over the summer, and host a large Free Cycle event during Welcome Week. This event allows our incoming students to shop for whatever they might need for free.
For Move-Out 2025, the Office of Sustainability and University Housing Services are continuing their collaboration to collect gently used items as they did last year with Pass It On Donation Stations located outside each residence hall and bins inside each residence hall. Last year, 88 volunteers helped to collect thousands of items for reuse or specialty recycling, saving them from the landfill.
How can you help?
To ensure the success of this Pass It On during Move-Out this year, volunteers are being sought May 6-10, 2025. Campus and community members are all welcome to volunteer for a three-hour shift (or more) to help keep items out of the landfill while continuing the strong Pass It On tradition.
Volunteers will be working at their designated Donation Station (large box truck) to collect gently used items from students moving out of their residence hall. Volunteers should be able to navigate using a ramp to access the truck and feel comfortable lifting at least 10 pounds.
