University College Director Michael “Brody” Broshears receives the Bobbie Flaherty Service to NACADA Award
University College Director Michael “Brody” Broshears has been honored with the Bobbie Flaherty Service to NACADA Award. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional service and made significant strides in advancing the field of academic advising within higher education.
The Bobbie Flaherty Service to NACADA Award highlights individuals who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to improving advising practices and the overall student experience. To be considered for this award, nominees must meet several criteria established by the association.
“Brody is the kind of leader who brings both heart and strategic clarity to the table,” said Dr. Karen Archambault, former NACADA president. “His commitment to equity, inclusion, and student success has shaped the future of advising across the country.”
Dave Marchesani from the University of Northern Iowa also recognizes Broshears contributions, noting that his service to NACADA, including roles as a board member, mentor, and speaker/consultant, showcases his dedication and compassion. “Brody’s belief in the transformative power of academic advising is evident in his work. He not only promotes values like connection, collaboration, and care, but he models these principles and encourages others to lead with integrity, listen actively, and always prioritize the student experience.”
Broshears said that receiving this recognition is particularly meaningful.
“It was so humbling to read the nomination letters, and it feels wonderful to be recognized,” he said. “What truly sets the association apart is the people—the relationships and interactions that I have had with NACADA members through my journey has made me a better person and professional, and I am grateful to the association for this honor.” .
A member of NACADA since 1999, Broshears has been an active contributor to the organization. He has served on Board of Directors and Council, presented over 100 sessions at state, regional, and annual conferences, mentored in the Emerging Leaders Program, and currently serves as a faculty member for NACADA’s Administrators’ Institute, and is a member of NACADA Consulting services.
“Brody exemplifies the spirit of this award,” said Dr. Kevin Thomas, vice president for Enrollment Services and Student Success at the University of Central Arkansas, who nominated Broshears. “He creates space for others to lead, learn, and grow. His dedication to student success and advisor development is both visionary and deeply personal.”
Broshears will be formally recognized at the upcoming NACADA Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
NACADA, the Global Community for Academic Advising, is a leading association dedicated to advancing student success through excellence in academic advising.
