Resources available during SNAP funding lapse

During the current lapse in funding for SNAP benefits, students, faculty, and staff, as well as community members, have resources available to help.

The current lapse in federal funding may impact Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for some students, faculty, and staff, as well as local community members. If you or someone you know is personally affected, there are resources available, both on and off campus, to help.

Students who are experiencing food insecurity are encouraged to contact one of the following for assistance with resources, such as referrals to local food pantries and nutrition programs, follow-up to ensure ongoing needs are addressed, and assistance with navigating federal/state benefit programs.

  1. Contact the Dean on Duty:
  2. Complete a Redbird Care Team referral
  3. Contact Student Navigator Access/Outreach

Resources listed below are also available to students, faculty, staff, and local community members experiencing food insecurity. These resources are especially helpful to students when campus dining is closed or when confidential assistance is needed.

  1. WIC — Women, Infants, and Children (Not currently impacted by SNAP funding). Please contact McLean County Health Department for eligibility and enrollment support.
  2. Food Banks/Food Pantries (TEFAP — The Emergency Food Assistance Program): Find food pantries in our area at Eastern Illinois Foodbank and food pantries throughout Illinois at Find Food Illinois Map.

Community members are also encouraged to donate to local food pantries and food banks to help neighbors in need.

Further updates will be posted to Illinois State University Government Relations and Student Support, as new information becomes available.
