Make a lasting impact by mentoring a Redbird student
Your journey graduating from Illinois State to launching your career is nothing short of inspiring. Now, it’s your chance to pay it forward and empower the next generation of Redbirds!
Career Services invites you to join the Alumni Mentor Network, where your experience becomes a powerful tool for student success.
Why mentor
As a volunteer mentor, you’ll guide current Illinois State students by sharing your real-world insights on interviewing, networking, job hunting, and navigating your industry. Your advice could be the spark that lights the path for a future professional, and you might even discover your next colleague or rising star along the way.
“The Alumni Mentor Network is an excellent tool for Redbird alumni to give back their time and talent to the University and support the workforce of the future,” said Career Services Director Quanisha Kumi-Darfour.
How it works
The Alumni Mentor Network is easy to use. Students browse a list of alumni mentors and request a connection based on their career goals. As the mentor, you’ll receive the request and decide if it’s a good fit. Once matched, you and your mentee choose how and when to connect, whether it’s over coffee, virtually, by phone, or through a quick email exchange.
“Students have always asked for ways to connect directly with alumni. The Alumni Mentor Network is the perfect way for Redbirds to help Redbirds,” Kumi-Darfour said.
Get started
Simply head to the Alumni Mentor Network via Hire-A-Redbird and log in to begin your mentoring journey.
“Alumni mentors can help students with how to interview, develop successful networking techniques, and share career-specific tips,” says Kumi-Darfour. “It’s the perfect tool to connect students with alumni to tap into their career experience.”
Take a Redbird under your wing and help Redbirds soar!
