ISU Planetarium presents “Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope”

ISU Planetarium will offer its summer program, "Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope," through July 11, 2025.

The Illinois State University Planetarium is pleased to offer the full-dome show, Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope, running May 21 through July 11. Showtimes are Wednesdays at 2 p.m., and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. There is no show on Independence Day, July 4.

Two Small Pieces of Glass: The Amazing Telescope follows two students as they explore the night sky with an astronomer at a local star party. Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s child-like spyglass—using two small pieces of glass—to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. Geared for audiences of all ages, the show explores the wonders discovered by astronomers over the last 400 years.

Admission to the Illinois State University Planetarium is as follows:

  • $7 for adults;
  • $6 for children ages 5-12, seniors, and ISU ID holders;
  • $5 for children ages 3-4

Tickets may be purchased next to the Planetarium beginning 20 minutes before each show. Cash or checks only. Seating is limited.

The ISU Planetarium is located under the white-domed roof at the eastern end of Felmley Hall of Science Annex. Felmley Hall sits on the northeast corner of the ISU campus at the intersection of College Avenue and School Street.

Inexpensive parking for the 2 p.m. Wednesday matinees is available in the ISU visitor lot, located on Locus Street. Free parking for the 7:30 p.m. Friday programs is available a short distance from the ISU Planetarium in University parking lot F-67, on the east side of School Street.
