Career fairs connect Redbirds with internships, full-time positions, and employers
Redbirds interested in a full-time position, internship or just seeking to build their professional connections are invited to attend the Career Services spring career fairs. Open to students from all areas of study, recruiters from all industries, including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and others will be in attendance. “These organizations not only represent a variety of industries, but they are looking for a variety of majors as well,” said Andee Radliff, Career Services assistant director. “We encourage Redbirds from all areas of interest to attend our career fairs to discuss options and opportunities, even with those employers who are not directly in their field. This allows them to explore careers and begin or expand their professional networks.” Spring Internship Fair The Spring Internship Fair on Thursday, February 8, is held in the Bone Student Center. The fair connects Redbirds with employers to learn about their organizations and their internship opportunities. Spring Career Fair The Spring Career Fair is held on Tuesday, February 20, in the Bone Student Center, Brown Ballroom. During this fair, students and alumni connect with employers who are seeking candidates for their full-time positions. Education Career Fair The Education Career Fair is Thursday, March 7, in Horton Fieldhouse. This is a new location for the fair. Because of its size, Redbirds gain access to a greater number of employers.

Employers from a variety of industries attend to provide practical tips about job searching to help Redbirds navigate the process with confidence and success. Participants rotate through various sessions on the basics of how to make a great first impression, research employers, incorporate skills and experiences into their pitch, and much more. Checking out the list of employers attending the fairs and selecting those you most want to meet. A list of organizations attending is available on the career fair websites and on Hire-A-Redbird. Be sure to visit their website to learn more about them and their open positions. Constructing an effective résumé and connecting with Career Services during drop-in hours for feedback. Connecting with your career advisor for assistance on how to describe yourself and answer other common employer questions.

Leads with Brotherhood and SuccessWelcoming New and Returning Brothers An ecstatic Welcome Back gathering marked the beginning of the semester as brothers reconnected after their summer vacation. We had a chance to share our experiences, reflect on what’s ahead, and set the tone for a semester of both personal and collective growth. We are now in the beginning of our recruitment session, and thus far, the quality of prospective new members has been exceptional. We're pleased about the skill, enthusiasm, and diversity they may bring to our brotherhood as we grow. Leading on Campus Beyond social gatherings, Lambda Theta Phi is pleased to maintain our robust leadership and involvement on campus. Several of our brothers have taken on roles of leadership in the academic community, the student government, and other organizations this semester. We're demonstrating that our fraternity values leadership, service, and benefiting the larger campus community in addition to brotherhood. A Focus on Academics and Professional Development With frequent study sessions, peer tutoring, and mentorship programs in place, our commitment on academic performance is unwavering. In order to maintain Lambda Theta Phi's position as a leading fraternity in both academic and university leadership, brothers are standing up to help one another reach our academic objectives. Our efforts for professional growth are progressing in addition to academia. We offer networking opportunities, career offerings, and alumni panels arranged for the duration of the semester. These associations provide brothers with important tools to prepare us for life beyond graduation. Upcoming Highlights With so much momentum, we’re looking forward to several exciting upcoming events: Brotherhood Retreat: A weekend getaway focused on team building, leadership development, and bonding with both active members and alumni. Community Service Day: Giving back to the community has always been a priority for us, and this year’s service event promises to be our biggest yet. Bonfire Social: Whilst commitment is important, we also know how to have fun. We're going to have a memorable night with our brothers and the campus community for our first big social event of the semester. Moving Forward We're determined to make this semester a success as we set out on the new journey ahead. - International Redbirds get assistance with career seriesWhich organizations are hiring? Do I meet their requirements? How do I create a resume or LinkedIn profile showcasing my experiences? These are just a few questions students often ask as they consider full-time employment, internships, or assistantships. However, the number and types of questions often multiply for those students from abroad who are studying in the United States. Career Services’ Cultural Career Network Program (CCNP) and the Office of International Engagement will address some of those concerns by hosting the International Student Career Series. Each session provides Illinois State’s international students and alumni with career support to help them remain competitive and increase their confidence in the job market. - Students find jobs on-campus at You Can Work at ISU: Student Hiring EventThe hustle and bustle of Redbirds on campus soon returns. To help students soar this semester, Career Services is pleased to host its annual You Can Work at ISU: Student Hiring Event on August 15. Held in the Bone Student Center, the event allows students to identify and apply for student positions. University departments with open positions will be in attendance and interviewing students on the spot. "The Student Hiring Event is an excellent opportunity for students," said Natalie R. Alexander, Career Services associate director. "Students can identify open positions that not only fuel their wallet but can also help them gain valuable learning experiences. When working for a university department, faculty and staff are their employers who are here to support student success. Students who work on campus get a paycheck, but they also gain mentors, build professional connections, and strengthen the skills they need will need for the classroom and beyond.” The skills students gain in part-time employment can be specific to their area of study or life skills needed to be successful in their careers. "In Career Services, we call them 'transferable skills'," said Alexander. "These are the vital skills students will need when pursuing their careers. They include communication, teamwork/collaboration, and leadership skills. They also provide students with valuable opportunities to explore their interests and give insights into careers that may be a good fit for them." Students seeking part-time employment need to bring their Redbird identification card and any other information they may need to complete a job application, such as a list of previous employers and their contact information, and their class schedule. University departments Campus departments that are hiring can participate in the fair free of charge, but registration for the You Can Work at ISU: Student Hiring Event is required in advance. They should also bring any supplies they may need. With nearly 21,000 students enrolled at Illinois State, Career Services is proud to provide the You Can Work at ISU: Student Hiring Event, as one of many job and career fairs held this fall.
