Office of International Engagement invites students to an international conversation program

The Office of International Engagement (OIE) at Illinois State University is inviting students to connect across cultures at Conversations Café, a casual and welcoming event held every other Friday in the OIE Lobby on the second floor of Fell Hall. The next gathering takes place from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3 The event is designed to bring together both international and domestic students. Conversations Café offers a relaxed space to unwind, complementary food and refreshments to enjoy, as well as opportunities to engage in conversation and activities which foster connection and cultural exchange. Program coordinator for OIE, Emmy Buonomo, provided an overview of the event. “Our Conversations Café program brings both international students and domestic students in a stress-relieving environment,” Buonomo said. “We have crafts and activities. We have tea, coffee and snacks. Students can network and meet each other, and for those who want to be involved in the international realm but who may not have all the opportunities to do so, this is a great way to start.” Launched just over a year ago, the program has quickly become a favorite among English as a second language (ESL) students, study abroad students and anyone interested in global engagement on campus. The OIE hopes to continue growing the program’s reach by encouraging more domestic ISU student participation. “We’re hoping to expand and get more domestic students involved,” Buonomo said. “I know our international students are eager to meet some of the domestic students, and vice versa, so hopefully our program grows and expands from there.” Conversations Café is free and open to all students. For a conversation schedule or more information, take a look at the Office of International Engagement’s webpage.
