Connect with art lovers at the Sugar Creek Art Festival

Visit one of the top 100 art festivals in the nation this October. The Sugar Creek Art Festival is a free event set to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 11-12 in Uptown Normal. Founded in 1983, the festival was an event featuring 16 artists selling their work from car trunks to attract more foot traffic during the summer. Despite starting small, the festival has flourished into a two-day event with over 15,000 visitors each year. The Sugar Creek Art Festival will be presented by the McLean County Arts Center in Normal. Attendees are invited to view the artists' work while enjoying local food trucks. The Sugar Creek Art Festival Executive Director, Doug Johnson, is looking forward to the event as he reflects on his past experiences. “A lot of what the festival does is [similar to] what I was doing when I was a [resident assistant] at Watterson: Providing the opportunity for the people to come together and experience the world in a way that enriches their lives and gives them an expanded understanding of themselves,” Johnson said. In addition to the art, 13 bands will perform live music for the attendees. “An event like this has a lot of impact on the community … It’s a place to experience [and make] a direct impact on the actual artists,” Johnson said. Additional information relating to the event can be found here.
