Redbird Women’s Tennis Shines in Annual Redbird Duals
NORMAL, Ill. -Illinois State Women’s Tennis hosted the Redbird Duals this weekend, coming away with eight singles wins and two doubles wins.
Day one ended early because of weather, but not before three singles wins and one doubles win from the Redbirds. Sophomore Nicole Iosio beat St. Louis’ Francisca Gomez Weiss 7-5, 2-6, and 10-7. Senior Nuria Sanz defeated St Louis’ Madison Hill 6-0,and 6-2. Sophomore Emma Lindh conquered St Louis’ Aryn Walker 6-1, and 6-4. Seniors Lana Caculovic and Silvia Pomarolli took down Bradley’s Anna Belogliadova and Valeriia Ivanovskaia 6-4.
However, the Redbirds did not walk away undefeated. Bradley’s Ruby Tseng and Mariia Pukhina beat Sanz and Iosio 6-4. St. Louis’ Fiorella Duran defeated Pomarolli 6-2, and 6-1. St. Louis’ Emmerson White conquered Caculovic 6-4, and 6-2. St. Louis’ Nicolly Ferreira took down Sophomore Sophie Marie Lowe 6-1, 6-2.
No weather delays stopped the Redbirds on day two, leading to five singles wins and one doubles win. Sanz beat Western Illinois’ Chloé Routier 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, and Pukhina 7-6 (7), 6-0. Pomarolli defeated Western Illinois’ Mana Fawcett. Iosio conquered Western Illinois’ Jessica Hess 3-6, 6-3, and 10-5. Lowe took down Western Illinois’ Denver Johnson 7-5, 6-2. Sanz and Pomarolli beat Western Illinois’ Richardlyne Francois and Hess 6-1.
The Redbirds did still mark down some losses on day two, despite their improved performance compared to day one. Gomez Weiss and Hill beat Sanz and Pomarolli 6-1. St. Louis’ Elizabeth Choate and White defeated Lowe and Iosio 6-4. Western Illinois’ Nadezhda Petkova and Fawcett conquered Lowe and Iosio. Francois took down Caculovic 6-4, ret. Western Illinois’ Maarja Leinstrep took down Lindh 6-4, ret. Tseng beat Iosio 6-4, and 6-4.
Redbird Women’s Tennis will stay at home this weekend, as they host the Redbird Invitational on the 26th, 27th and 28th.
