Redbird Men’s and Women’s Fall Tennis Seasons Conclude at ITA Midwest Regional Tournaments

NORMAL, Ill. -Redbird men’s and women’s tennis both competed in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Tournaments this weekend. The men’s matches being hosted by DePaul University, and the women’s by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Day one in Chicago consisted of the singles qualifying round of 64, the singles qualifying round of 32, and the singles consolation round of 32. In the singles qualifying round of 64, sophomore Christian Capacci defeated Lucas Britez of the University of Toledo. (6-4, 6-2.) Senior Adrian Dibildox defeated Noah Becker of the University of Notre Dame. (6-2, 6-2.) Senior Tin Ostro defeated Cleveland State University’s Maxime Aremon 7-6 (4), 7-5. Senior Caden Scarlett defeated Cleveland State University’s Carl Gedlitschka 6-3, 6-4. Sophomore Finn Logue was defeated by Mert Oral of the University of Michigan 6-3, 6-0. Sophomore Manuel Pavia was defeated by Eldin Nokic of the University of Illinois Chicago. (7-5, 6-0.) Senior Jett Leong was defeated by Western Michigan University’s Matej Kajzer 7-6 (4), 7-5.
In the singles qualifying round of 32, Capacci defeated Nolan Balthazor of the University of Notre Dame 7-6 (3), 6-4. Dibildox defeated Marquette University’s Evan Glebov 7-6 (3), 6-2. Ostro was defeated by Collin Beduhn of the University of Wisconsin 7-5, 7-6 (2). Scarlett was defeated by Mihalo Savic of the University of Illinois Chicago 7-6 (1), 7-5.
In the singles consolation round of 32, Leong defeated Sergio Alejandro Gonzalez of the University of Toledo 6-2, 6-2. Logue was defeated by Youngstown State University’s Mihai David Haita 6-4, 6-4. Pavia was defeated by Northern Illinois University’s Iker Dellien 6-3, 6-0.
Day two consisted of the singles main draw round of 64, the doubles main draw round of 64, and the doubles main draw round of 32. In the singles main draw round of 64, Capacci defeated Hayden Jones of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. (7-5, 6-2.) Dibildox was defeated by Ohio State University’s Jack Anthrop 6-3, 6-1. Senior Tomas Valencia was defeated by Ohio State University’s Alex Okonkwo 6-3, 6-4.
In the doubles main draw round of 64, Leong and Logue defeated Britez and Gonzalez 8-4. Dibildox and Valencia were defeated by Ohio State University’s JP Day and Preston Stearns. Scarlett and Ostro were defeated by Gedlitschka and Lincoln Battle 8-3. Capacci and Pavia were defeated by Northwestern University’s Greyson Casey and Chad Miller 8-4.
In the doubles main draw round of 32, Leong and Logue were defeated by Okonkwo and Alexander Bernard 8-2.
Day one in Champaign consisted of the singles qualifying round of 64 and the singles qualifying round of 32. In the singles qualifying round of 64, sophomore Sophie Marie Lowe was defeated by Western Michigan University’s Audrey Smitek 6-4, 6-0. Senior Nuria Sanz was defeated by Northwestern University’s Maia Loureiro 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Nicole Iosio was defeated by Eastern Michigan University’s Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya 7-6 (3), 7-5. Freshman Vittoria Benedetti was defeated by Bradley University’s Anna Belogliadova 6-1, 6-2. Senior Silvia Pomarolli was defeated by Rosie Seccia of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign 6-4, 6-3.
In the singles qualifying round of 32, Pomarolli defeated Marquette University’s Elena Duva 6-2, 7-5. Sanz defeated Valparaiso University’s Lacey Tanner 7-6 (3), ret. Lowe was defeated by Risa Ueno of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Benedetti was defeated by Western Michigan University’s Frida Weijerman 6-4, 6-2.
Day two consisted of the singles main draw round of 64, the doubles main draw round of 64, and the doubles main draw round of 32. In the singles main draw round of 64, senior Lana Caculovic was defeated by Laura Rahnel of the University of Michigan 6-3, 6-2.
In the doubles main draw round of 64, Pomarolli and Sanz defeated Marquette University’s Luciana Mendoza and Aiyana Abbott 8-7 (3). Benedetti and Caculovic were defeated by Belogliadova and Mariia Pukhina 8-6. Iosio and Lowe were defeated by Ueno and Elizabeth Isyanov 8-1.
In the doubles main draw round of 32, Pomarolli and Sanz were defeated by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Margaux Guibal Britt and Stefaniya Anikina 8-4.
These tournaments concluded the Redbird’s fall seasons, as they will now look forward to their upcoming spring seasons.
