NORMAL, Ill. -A quick turnaround saw the Bison back in action the following day as they traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Cyclones. The matchup was the Bison’s first appearance of the season away from Grossinger Motors Arena.
The game saw Kyle Jackson extend his point streak to five games, and Nikita Sedov’s first ECHL goal helped Bloomington stay competitive before ultimately falling 5-4 in overtime to the Cyclones. Sedov’s milestone came alongside Mikael Robidoux’s 200th career ECHL appearance and Jonny Evans’ 100th career point.
After a scoreless first period, Cincinnati struck first early in the second after two minutes of play, before Daniel Tedesco answered with his first goal as a Bison, set up by Evans, to even the contest at one goal apiece.
The tie did not last long, as Cincinnati regained and extended its lead to 3-1, but Lou-Felix Denis quickly responded with a top-corner snapshot, and Chongmin Lee tied it on the next shift with a slap shot from the near faceoff circle.
Tied 3-3 entering the final frame, the Bison grabbed their first lead when Jackson won a faceoff that led to Sedov’s first career goal at the halfway mark of the period.
Defending the lead the rest of the period, the Bison held off several Cyclones chances before Cincinnati broke through on a late power play to force overtime.
Despite several Bison chances in the extra period, Cincinnati buried the game-winner three and a half minutes into overtime to secure the win and end the Bison’s comeback effort.
With the overtime point, Bloomington improved to six points in five games, moving into a three-way tie for third place in the Central Division with the Cyclones and the Toledo Walleye.
The Bison will return to Grossinger Motors Arena for their next matchup Saturday, Nov. 8, when they face the visiting Indy Fuel. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
