Scoring 14 of the final 18 points in the third set, the Illinois State Redbirds came from behind in the final set to secure a sweep over the Indiana State Sycamores in the opening MVC match of the season for each of the teams.

After a grueling non-conference schedule that featured games against nine schools with winning records, including two from the Big Ten and one more each from the Big 12 and ACC, the Illinois State volleyball squad opens Missouri Valley Conference play on Friday and Saturday night with a two-match road trip against Indiana State and Bradley.

Playing tournament host Dayton – a team that ranked as high as 24th in the AVCA Coaches Poll earlier this season – the Illinois State volleyball team closed play at the Dayton Flyer Invitational – and the 2025 non-conference season – falling in three sets to the Flyers.

The Illinois State Volleyball squad rebounded from a loss earlier in the day to top the Wright State Raiders on Friday late afternoon in four sets, improving to 1-1 at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.
