The cold could not stop the Redbirds from bringing the heat to Northern Iowa in a Missouri Valley Conference match up.

Illinois State quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse and Redbird offense kept the momentum going in a 31-16 victory over Northern Iowa after a statement win to No. 21 South Dakota last Saturday.

The Redbirds hosted the Panthers at Hancock Stadium as they looked to earn back-to-back wins.

Rittenhouse secured the first points for ISU after using his legs to earn a rushing touchdown. The defense stepped up their game as Derrek Steffan forced a sack on UNI quarterback Jaxon Dailey.

Rittenhouse kept the offensive pressure going with a connection to Luke Mailander to set the Redbirds up at the one-yard line in the fourth quarter. Seth Glatz finished the drive for ISU in the endzone to secure another ISU victory.

It is an ISU verses ISU battle this Saturday as the Redbirds travel to Indiana State for their penultimate game of the season. The Sycamores go into the match with a 1-4 record in conference play and are 3-6 overall. They are coming off a huge top-five win over South Dakota State.
