Families line up at Constitution Trail last week for the Town of Normal’s annual Not-So-Scary Haunted Trail. The Halloween event is designed for young children who want to dress up and have fun without being scared.

More than 1,600 people attended this year. Many families showed up early to avoid long lines.

“It gets bigger every year,” said Keely Theobald, who brought her kids to the event. “We came early this time because last year the line was so long. It is fun seeing everyone come together and the kids playing in their costumes.”

Characters waited along the trail to greet kids, pose for pictures and hand out candy. One of the most popular characters was Bluey, who stood near the entrance welcoming families as they came in.

Groups were let through the trail a few at a time to keep things organized. The kids took pictures and collected treats along the way.

“Not-So-Scary is perfect for little kids,” said parent Hanna Razo. “My kids get so excited when they see the characters. Their faces light up and it is really sweet to watch.”

The Town of Normal will host a scary version of the Haunted Trail for teens and adults this Friday and Saturday.
