During the month of September, the state of Illinois has been in a moderate to severe drought and record high temperatures. Without precipitation, the state has been at risk of fires and damaged crop yields for the year.  Drought also decreases the water quality and availability. Illinois State University students have grown frustrated over the heat, claiming they are ready for fall weather. Though walking is the main way students travel, they say they enjoy the ambiance that the rain provides. Student Amanda Despres says “When it rains I kind of feel like it’s a day I can kind of relax, take a break, kind of go slower, so, I’m liking this weather”. Fall temperatures also provide an opportunity to change up wardrobes and start wearing fall attire. Ryan Saba agrees, saying “I kind of like when it’s a little bit chillier because I get to wear fall clothing, and that’s something I prefer to wear”.  If these weather trends continue, the summer weather will fade into typical October weather.
