Tensions are rising for civics teacher Matt Chapman of Normal Community High School after he wore an “abolish ice” shirt to his class. He was spotted in a social media post wearing this shirt which sparked controversy across conservative social media groups. Although Chapman is receiving hatred for wearing this, he is as well getting support from those in his community.

A conference was held at the high school to discuss what action was to be taken. Plenty of students showed up in abolish ice shirts, Mexican flags, and other items to show their support for their teacher. “I have observed Matt to be one of the most kind and compassionate people I know” says student Joshua Crowder.

On the other hand, some parents came to the conference with other concerns. “I cannot sit on the sidelines and let anyone within this district bring politics into the school. Theres absolutely no place for it” says parent Erik Pokarney. These parents are strong in their belief that politics belong nowhere in the classroom.

The district has yet to determine what action they are going to take.
