Schroeder Hall held a Trans Rights craft night hosted by the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies program yesterday, October 15.
The event was in response and retaliation to an anti-trans speaker who was on campus on Tuesday. The craft night gave an opportunity for students on the other side to stand up for trans rights and show their pride.
Students were able to make flags with provided fabrics, buttons, and posters to show support for their LGBTQIA peers.
WGSS director Dr. Jaqueline Weir said that they “Mostly wanna make sure that everyone understands that we’re against discrimination in all forms and that definitely includes gender and sex based discrimination.”
The craft night was a huge success, and every seat was taken. WGSS isn’t slowing or backing down in the face of rising national tensions and is holding more events throughout the year.
