Dr. Andy Rummel’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose.Now a professor of tuba and euphonium at Illinois State University, Rummel’s journey began as a small-town kid who fell in love with music at ISU’s summer band camp. Inspired by his mentor, Ed Livingston, he went on to perform around the country as a musician in the U.S. Air Force before returning to his alma mater to teach the next generation of Redbirds.In this Veterans Day feature, Rummel reflects on how music became his lifelong form of service—from performing at military ceremonies after 9/11 to mentoring young musicians in the same halls where his own story began.Watch to learn how one ISU alum came full circle—from band camp to Air Force to professor.
